In this episode, I speak with Patrick Moreau of StillMotion about the 4 Pillars of Storytelling that help documentary filmmakers. From Wedding Videos to the NFL ...
The right place at the right time. Patrick Moreau and his team at StillMotion.ca had just finished shooting and editing their first full wedding with the newly developed Canon 7D.
The highlights of that wedding video were uploaded to Vimeo.com.
7D ...
The title tag included the word 7D.
There were a lot of people looking to find examples of what the Canon 7D could do ... including the NFL.
JC + Esther ...
Upon watching the amazing and touchy story of JC and Esther's wedding, the NFL called upon StillMotion to take their talents to the big league.
Here is the wedding video that started it all ...

From the NFL to CBS and to the Emmys ...
The most notable piece to come out of the relationship with the NFL was ...
StillMotion's feature-length docu-drama ...
A Game of Honor.
The film went on to win three Emmy awards, including Outstanding Sports Documentary ...
Here is an excerpt from that series ...

#Stand With Me ...
It wasn't long before the StillMotion team ventured into creating their own documentary ...
Searching for a story ...
They found one ...
Child slavery.
Slavery of course, isn’t easy to talk about. But what the Stillmotion discovered was a story about a little girl named, Vivienne.
Emotionally affected by photos of children from other countries in slavery ...
Vivienne was propelled to start selling lemonade to help end child slavery.
What Vivienne did, more than anything, was make the harsh reality of child slavery accessible.
There are five ideals that guided #standwithme. Five words used to shape StillMotion's decisions.
- One
- Light
- Community
- Subjective
- Impact

Storytelling ...
In order to get #standwithme seen by a wider audience, Patrick and his team set out on a bus tour across the country to not only exhibit the film, but to put on an exclusive storytelling workshop.
Vimeo came calling ...
And StillMotion created a storytelling class for Vimeo's Video School program.
Here is the first video of that series ...
